Almost every other issue has been about a Poly-61m, I believe - and it's just one person with one problem there really isn't much going on in there.įrankly, the two(!) Poly-800 groups on Facebook are more active now than the Yahoo! Group was in the last 4 years I was a member.

I'm still a member, but I have yet to see any questions about the Poly-800 that don't apply to one of the Hawk mods causing problems (or the "upgrades" causing compatibility issues with previous versions).

We were told there wouldn't be enough "interest" to keep a dedicated Poly-800 group, so we'd all have to squeeze in with the other Korg owners. If it's not the battery, then you would have to find out what the memory IC is, and find out if replacing it would resolve it.I believe that Korg group is made up of anyone still left in the Yahoo! Group who wanted to move. If the battery is socketed then it has been changed it's almost impossible to solder direct to a battery, and they are factory-soldered originally. i don't know if the handful of poly800 experts would be there, but you might get some feedbacK. There is a vintagekorg group.io but it deals with all old korgs. Thanks for your help Steve! I may have some more questions coming your way once I open it back up - would love to avoid backing up my patches every time I make a new one

I would guess that the original battery was replaced when that install was done but maybe not! Will check again while connected and on. If I unplug it and turn it on, all the patches get wiped immediately, even though I have a brand-new battery in it.Īdmittedly I tested the battery removed from the synth (3.07V) - there had been a holder installed before my time. And this happens even if I leave the synth plugged in all the time. Then, it will start to randomly lose or corrupt patches in the lower banks. Mine starts to lose the last few banks over time. Yes, it sounds like your Poly is experiencing the same issue as mine: "synth dementia". The presets in Poly-800 mode should sound pretty close, especially any based upon the square waveform the "sawtooth" waveform is very difficult to emulate, since it's not a real sawtooth waveform. There are two main modes for the Fury-800: Poly-800 mode and Fury-800 mode. In the end, the dev just decided to use DEG1's envelope for both oscillators and DEG3's envelope for the VCF and noise - it was getting waaaay too complicated. Also, the oscillator and filter envelopes aren't linear - and they're not even the same! We couldn't just use measurements of DEG1 for the other two envelopes all three had to be measured. Apparently, mine is a bit brighter than some of the ones owned by other people who were helping out, too. Its pretty good but way off the sound of most of the patches unless I'm overlooking something, I'm basing it on the presets btw. Some are off yes, but as I found out when working with the dev, not all Mk I Poly-800s had the same "sound" in the first place. It sounds a lot like the real thing, and doesn't suffer from the same issues our Polys are having. I know you said your battery was "normal", but what was the actual voltage reading, and was the synth on or off when you tested the voltage? Also, is the battery soldered in or is it in a holder? The chip that stores the patches is about $6, but if you have a short on your system or if something is draining some of the voltage from your battery, replacing the chip won't help. If I unplug it and turn it on, all the patches get wiped immediately, even though I have a brand-new battery in it. Would the strange parameter values point to any particular problem?Yes, it sounds like your Poly is experiencing the same issue as mine: "synth dementia". I hadn’t connected midi as described in the other comment so am at a bit of a loss as to what may have caused it. That said, it’s a bit disconcerting that the patches randomly corrupted. I’ve since re-loaded the factory patches - so far so good. I actually didn’t check the last 8 but all of the 70s and about half of the 60s were wiped.
